Project Overview
\
Bonneville Power Administration and OWEB funding allowed for Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) Technical Assistance on all eligible and beneficial streams throughout Gilliam County. CREP is a voluntary program that allows landowners to receive incentive payments from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) for establishing long-term, riparian buffers on eligible land. As a result of this project 15 CREP contracts were signed, protecting 702.8 acres and 25.14 stream miles.
Gilliam County SWCD’s Riparian Buffer Technician promoted the benefits of CREP to local landowners and provided Technical Assistance and project planning support to willing participants through all phases of the project. Technical Assistance included help with new and existing plans and to landowners who requested recommendations for ongoing CREP maintenance.
